Hart Annual Exhibition 2022 Guest Artists
Andy Maguire
An economic migrant from Manchester, after completing my education in London I decided trying to make a living as an artist wasn’t for me and took up the offer of free accommodation for a couple of years in a shack in the beautiful Pembrokeshire countryside where I was in great demand as a farm labourer and went on to became an itinerant farm worker travelling throughout Europe, Canada and the USA. Along the way I learned to drive heavy goods vehicles and spent 10 years or so as a long distance HGV driver. I gave this up to become a parent and discovered how wonderful this was and spent much of my time with my children and finding myself being the only father at parent and toddler groups. I worked for Tower Hamlets Playbus, taking childcare onto disadvantaged estates in East London in a converted double decker bus. I’ve since gone on to work in TV News, and was part of a group of independent film-makers. My next venture was as a landscape and wildlife gardener until I opted for a slightly less physically demanding occupation in semi retirement as an Art Technician in an East London Secondary School. Throughout this time my stated occupation on my passport has been ‘artist’ and I have kept on producing art up until the present day. flickr |
Corinne Thompson
"I’m a sculptor and mixed media artist, based in rural East Kent. I teach craft to adults and children, as I’m passionate about the wellbeing that creativity can bring! From my earliest memory, animals and art have always been part of my life. I have spent so much time in the company of animals, studying them without even realising it so it’s no wonder they are my choice of muse. There's so much variation to their forms, colours and textures. I enjoy the challenge of translating this and their characters into my creations. I like to team my subjects with colour. I generally use block colour in my paintings as I like the contrast of this against the subject but I love experimenting with textures too. Nature is the ultimate craftsperson and provides our senses with so many stimuli. I feel so lucky to live in an environment where I’m inspired by its beauty every day." website |
Deborah Woollard
Deborah Jane Designs I'm a British designer/maker based in Romney Marsh in Kent. I attended Brighton University to study Contemporary Fine Art Practice. However, my drawing, sewing and painting skills are largely self taught and have been developed from continuous practice since childhood. I explore my subject matters in a variety of mediums, including drawings, textiles, watercolours, oil paints and mosaics. From one initial sketch, I will often replicate my drawing in a variety of mediums to explore and capture colours, light and movement. Every piece of work I meticulously create is an expression of the deep love I have for nature. |
France Tetreault
One day, “Canada’s first female assistant recording engineer” made a dream come true by moving to England - the homeland of her rockstar heroes. After 2 exciting years, France was inspired to move to Paris France where she stayed for 12 years expanding her music business career to classical music, painted in her spare time and studied abstract art under Lionel Perotte. Life events then led her to Bologna Italy (where she was invited to have her first solo exhibition), and stayed over 6 years, after which, she returned to England to paint full-time and became “the music lover’s abstract artist”. Through a method she describes as “Abstract Maximalism”, France translates the experience of music into paintings. Her artworks are mostly mixed media with collage, and often include sheet music from songs that have directly, or indirectly, played a part in her life and career website |
Katie Bradley
Katie is an artist and musician from Folkestone. Her voice has taken her to Jazz and Blues clubs around the world and when the world came to a halt in 2020 Katie pursued her other dream, illustration. As Booyay Designs Katie creates beautiful images printed on to mugs, made into cushions and displayed as giclee prints. Folk tales and magic realism inspire Katie’s artwork. This year Katie has been commissioned to illustrate several books in the UK and worldwide, she also plans to illustrate her own books of poetry for ages and stories for children. Katie loves the creative atmosphere of sunny Folkestone and has lived here for 20+ years and has loved seeing it thrive. Commissions are available website music |
Kristina Waddingham
With a lifelong interest in animals and art, Kent-based artist Kristina paints realistic wildlife portraits in oil on canvas. Using vibrant colours and detailed paint strokes, she brings forth a sense of connection to the animals that she paints, with a large focus on the animals eyes and character. Kristina’s previous experience of studying Zoology is present in her artistic vision to create a more caring and sympathetic culture surrounding wildlife. Given the environmental crisis of our times, she believes that having a direct connection to the animals she paints will inspire those who view her paintings to start to change the way that we live for the better. website |

Molly Lambourn
Molly Lambourn is an internationally exhibiting Fine Artist from Kent. She recently completed her master’s in Fine Art at UCA Canterbury. Her practice specialises in drawing, she draws obsessively on 2D and 3D forms. Molly’s practice is inspired by literature and explores themes of womanhood, self, and the domestic. Her work is decadently intricate and detailed, subverting conventional images of beauty and femininity to explore darker realities. She has recently shown with the Royal Scottish Academy and has also shown with the Turner Contemporary, Royal British Society of Artists and the Supermarket Art Fair in Stockholm. She is a member of ArtCan and regularly exhibits with them. History permeates Molly’s influence and she has worked with Jane Austen’s House on a residency to explore Jane and also worked with Pow! Penny Graham
Ceramics grabbed me later in life, about twelve years ago at the Cube in Folkestone. The adventure with clay started with a basic course supplemented by Raku workshops with master potters in the UK and also in Croatia. I have learned along the way, from many mistakes and light-bulb moments. I love the feel of clay and enjoy allowing it to have its wicked way when making pots. Making a vessel is a meditative experience and the piece emerges with its organic form not dictated by me. Always, it is a one off. Recent work includes a series of Raku Goddess pots, and lately, stoneware platters and bowls inspired by photos of Earth from space. Raku is my passion! It’s exciting, dangerous, unpredictable and wondrously combines earth, fire, water and air in a magical, alchemical process to produce stunning results. Naked Raku is very special as are the subtly beautiful effects achieved using soluble salts. Ask me to explain! |
Rick Shaw
Hello. I trade under the pseudonym Rick Shaw. At this stage I would prefer to remain anonymous. [Don’t worry I’m not famous!]. I have been a resident of Kent for 25 years although my birthplace is Australia. I have only been painting for 2 years and am self taught. I blame Bob Ross and boredom during the first lockdown! I have some favourite painters who I have been influenced by; namely Jeffrey Smart, Russell Drysdale and Edward Hopper amongst others. I enjoy the freedom of expression painting gives me and very much hope you enjoy my efforts. Criticism and feedback much appreciated! |
