Mary Sampson BA fine arts
I studied Sculpture and have worked in wood and stone and mixed media for some time, for the last twenty years I have been working in clay.
I take inspiration from the landscape of Kent and its seashore. Plants and the natural world also directly feed into my practice. My studio sits in the garden and much of my work is based around pieces for the garden with the shapes and materials being chosen to suit the plants or situations that they are made for. Most of my work is in Stoneware suitable for the home or garden but I also make some pieces to Raku.
Folk Tales have also been an abiding interest and I combine ceramic pieces with found objects and mixed media to make Story Boxes.
My recent work Blue Footed Birds was inspired by the drawings of Quentin Blake and has opened a new chapter in my practice.
